Drying out on harbour wall

I am thinking about drying out my Bavaria 36(2002) between tides on harbour wall.

I wonder if some other owners of a BAV 36 have tried this?

Will the unsupported keel take the load safely
Does the boat sit level or does it tend to sit rudder down or bow down.

My previous boat a Feeling 920 would tend to sit down on its rudder.
To make it sit level I corrected this by placing extra weight on the bow

No problem with the keel taking the weight. Difficult to say if it will dry nose or tail down, but my similar 37 of same age dried straight.

We have a 2004 36 with the deeper fin keel and she sits heavily towards the stern.

Yes you can dry out against the wall I have done this several times in my 36 but it is good to empty the water from the tank and get your fuel low as the centre of gravity is towards the engine so don't all stand and look over he stern

Try to keep the boat off the wall till you touch the bottom then you can lean it against the wall so plenty of fenders and good ropes.

Hi Mark,

Yes that is what the line was for just to hold off. The jetty is in a fast flowing river that was pushing the boat hard on to it, so we kept tension on till she touched then let her fall slowly on the jetty, after that it just sat there.

Think you will find all models of that era pretty much the same as they have relatively long keels.

Had my 37 up against the posts a couple of times. It does tend to sit back on the rudder, so usually put in a support as the water starts going out to stop that. I think next time I shall empty the water tank and see if that makes any difference!
