My B47 Forward Water Tanks have an overflow into the chain locker. Is this fitted as standard, or is it because I had a water maker?

I'd imagine it's standard.  The forward tank on my Cruiser 37 has a vent which discharges into the chain locker.

I have a vent/overflow too (just a hose looped up and then hanging down with an open end), and it's a standard thing. Aft tank has a vent fitting next to the filler at the transom instead, but the forward filler is on deck and you wouldn't want a vent where the waves come over the bow, so having it in the relatively protected anchor locker makes sense.

OK, thanks.

Pity, I was hoping to remove it as it's a bit manky inside.

It is needed as a vent - otherwise you would not be able to fill the tank. Replace the tube (probably easier said than done!)

In my case it isn't needed as a vent, my filling hose drops below the top of the tank to in an effort to reduce "Bavaria Blowback"; but I guess it is needed for expansion.

You still need a vent to let the air out as the water goes in. All solid (as opposed to flexible) tanks need venting.
