*(4) i. Lack of Diesel (other) – Fuel tank failure

On my 2006 Cruiser 37, I had a failure of the diesel fuel tank caused by flexing of the tank under the weight of the fuel.

I inspected the tank and found that there was insufficient support underneath it, with areas where the foam filling/support was missing. This allowed the tank to flex under the weight of the diesel, eventually causing it to crack and leak.

I repaired the problem and added foam support underneath the tank to prevent further movement and flexing.

I have not seen this issue mentioned in the list so far, but I think it is worth including as a potential structural problem with the fuel tank, particularly on boats where the tank is not adequately supported underneath.
