Hi Bill and Linda,

I've got it on my Samsung phone, but it's installation defeated me. Fortunately the guy on the boat next to mine during an overwinter lay up was a wizz and he very quickly sorted it out. Unfortunately I haven't set eyes on him for about two years. I'm not sure if I can help you, but ask away and I'll try.

I have the app loaded with a world view but unable to do anything with it.

My issue is how to get started.

Did you install any charts?
Opencpn only comes with a world Chart. You Need to install extra Charts for your nav-area!

Odysseus

Yes understand that.
But how????

Thanks

Apart from slight UI differences and some plugin limitations, the Android app is pretty much the same as the full OpenCPN version. So the same documentation applies. E.g. for installing charts: https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=opencpn:opencpn_user_manual:getting_started:chart_installation

Which charts do you have for it? If you haven't got any, https://opencpn.org/wiki/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=opencpn:opencpn_user_manual:getting_started:chart_installation is probably the easiest, unless you happen to be in a region with free charts (US), in which case you can use the built-in chart downloader which is even easier.

Thank you yngmar, i will study this when i get back home.
I'm  away till Oct now .
One point was the world map did not have any red boxs outlining charts at all. Is this right.

Yes of course, because there are no charts to draw outlines for. This seems to be a key misunderstanding people have about OpenCPN, probably because they're used to Navionics, which is a (very basic) chartplotting software bundled with charts. OpenCPN is just the chartplotting software, you must provide the charts. Then it'll all start to happen, outlines, charts and navigation.

If you happen to be in Licata this winter, I'll be holding an OpenCPN introduction for the liveaboard community there sometime :)

Yngmar, is there any chance you doing a video of the lecture that could be posted somewhere such as YouTube, for example, so that those of us not actually in Licata might benefit from being able to see it too, please ?
