The deck core on a Bavaria 44 is, I am told; Divinycell foam PVC??? What happens to it if there is any water ingress into the deck core???

Are you sure there's a core?  I think you might find that there's an outer moulding and an inner moulding glued together with big blobs of gob (watched them putting the decks together at the factory).

There might be some coremat in each of the mouldings, but I don't think there's a foam core in there (there is in the topsides though).

you would expect some sort of core in a deck , thankfully in bavarias it will be a foam based core , like coremat or so , one of the reasons I bought a bavaria , some other manufacturers use balsa sandwich which soaks up water like a sponge , modern foams are closed cell so problem doesnt arise .
