switch hinge side for lazarette hatch

I think Bavaria might have messed up when they hinged the lazarette hatches on the inside edge of the locker as this is unwieldy, awkward and unsafe      ( no  easy way to secure hatch when open). If the hatch was hinged on the outside edge it would be a lot better. Has anyone attempted this in an ocean model  and if so  how did this go,
