Hi All,
I have a Bavaria 40 2008 with a steaming light that I cant fix, globes have been changed and wiring checked but still will not work, I had it looked at by a friend and he seems to think it is a 301 panel problem as he knows of another boat with the same problem. Has anyone else had this same problem and do you know what the fix is ? The steaming light on the panel does flash when you turn it on to indicate a fault and everything else works as normal.

How did you check that wires are OK?
Did you check presence of voltage at the bulb socket side when switch is ON?
Did you check wires resistance to exclude corrosion or a break?

Hi Lyra,
I will ask when I see him next and get back to you. i was away when he checked it and now he is away
Do you think it could be a cable problem ?

according to the user manual the light flashes in case of bulb or wire problems - I can just assume that there is a circuit that checks the presence (or lack of) current when the switch is ON.
So if you are sure that the bulb is OK then this leaves the cables or connection points. To make sure the path from the switch to the bulb is OK it is neccessary to first make sure that voltage is present at the bulb socket when the switch is on AND make sure that the resistance of the path is low

Try connecting the cable onto another switch on the 301

Mia & Liyra,
Thanks for your suggestions and advice.
My problem is I am to over weight to go up the mast and check so I have to get help from other people and they are not around at the moment. I will be going to the London boat show in January and while I was there I was hoping to get some parts to fix the problem...I will try and get someone up there over the next few weeks...In the mean time I will see if I can use another power supply on the panel and see if that works.
Thanks & Regards,
Alec

in the back of the 301 panel there are small fuses similar to motor type, check each of them, normally if the lamp blows the LED will flash on the front of 301.

Have you checked for 12V on the connector plug on the wiring harness, according to page 19 connector 4 cable 4

Hi Everyone,
Just an update.
The lights were looked at again over the weekend by a friends friend.
he believes the problem to be diodes and has by passed the board for both lights and now connected using switch F3 & F5. they are both now working as well as my friends Bavaria that had exactly the same problem. He did not want to replace the diodes as was concerned about removing the old ones and damaging the board while doing it. Well at least it was not a cable problem in the mast and I now have lights again. I suppose the best thing now if I want it totally back to normal is buy another board or take the old one out and repair. Does anyone know how much a new board is and/or if they are available after market ?
Once again thanks to everyone for suggestions and advice.
