No mention of any grease being used in the re-assembly.

Excellent video, thank you. Interesting that my 2000 B47 has the same markings on the bearing: JP3L/SW, although the Teflon (?) insert has a smaller bore.

I also replaced the seal at the top of the rubber tube (marked STEFA CC65x120x13), it's just a standard shaft seal.

My Vision 40 purchased in 2007 had stiff helm from the outset. The dealer dropped the rudder and found metal filings in the lower bearing inner surface. The lower teflon bearing was replaced with a new one that had a race of needle bearings on the inner surface through which the rudder shaft passed. The bearing was supplied by Bavaria. I assume the bearing maker offers the needle bearing version of the lower bearing. The fix worked very well but of course will do nothing for corrosion of the alum housing against the outer surface-not a prolem yet.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and saw this eminent video...

I have a possible leakage in my rudder installation which I would say is exactly as the one posted here.
Took a picture from the video and added some arrows to show where I can see like greyish powder, quite a lot, thought it might been salt from the water? It's quite a lot like a layer of 5 mm...

I have actually repaired the rudder once due to osmosis, so I replaced it, but didn't change the bearing at the time or anything else...

What do you say, could one have water somehow coming in from where the arrow points in my picture?

My boat is a Bavaria 38 Holiday from 1998.
