Hi just wondering if anyone out there has tried non Volvo parts re. impellers belts etc. For the D2 55 I was told the impeller is now $37 not $27 re a number change :o. They streamlined it for other engines, added 3 other gaskets I don't need and upped the price. The belt is over $50 I went to a local auto supply and got a match for $10 :tbu. I know there are some things re parts you should not skimp on but does anyone else have alternatives as far as consumables for their engine.

Check on the Jabsco website. Volvo use Jabsco pumps/Impellors, brand them and up the price.

Hi All,
Does anyone know where you can get after market parts for Volvo engines ? except for basic items mentioned above. There pricing is discusting and horrific really they should be ashamed of the prices they charge. I can understand a little extra for product development and profit but not the prices they charge. These days there are a lot of good quality suppliers for belts, filters, bearings, seals etc and you will find Volvo will be re branding or the supplier will be making a batch for Volvo with the Volvo name on it but they will be the same parts. I have used after market parts for years on a variety of equipment with no problems.

The D2-55 is a Perkins made engine also used by caterpiller for gen sets etc so filters for these engins match. I have had no prolems using non- VP filters

A well known and high respected Volvo tech I know uses aftermarket parts on many different volvo engines without any issues by x-referencing and of course understanding the part in question very well.  I have used AM belts, filters, impellors, gaskets and service parts may times without issues.  Try keyparts.

Sorry... just realised you are in the US (the $ should have given it away  :-[, so keyparts are prob not an option.

For filters, use http://www.inlinefilters.co.uk/ to cross-reference the part numbers.

For oil, just check the recommended spec and buy the cheapest that meets the spec.

Someone already mentioned Jabsco for impellors, and of course for other water pump parts.

There is an article in the latest PBO of someone who didn't like the £2700 price tag for a Volvo heat exchanger (well, who would?). Instead he bought a proprietary unit for £250 and spent another £50 on hoses and bits to fit it.

Hello Blue Max,

Do you know what number/name Perkins use for the Volvo D2-55? I agree that Volvo spares are too expensive, I was charged £35 for an air filter, which was only a bit of sponge foam.
