Camping Gaz bottle size

We have the usual 2.7kg bottle fitted in purpose built locker.

We find that much to small.
We are already on our third bottle this year.

On our previous boat we had a 4.3kg Calor gas bottle which is a much more practical size but would appear to be too big for the small Bavaria 36 (2002) locker.

Has anyone tried to modify the port locker making it airtight except for vent to outside boat and fit the gas bottle and spare?

Also the cost of the Camping Gaz bottle is excessive £26 to £30 in west Scotland.
The bigger Calor gas bottle is around £19

No reason why you could not make a gas locker in the aft part of the locker. You can buy ready made GRP mouldings to do it, or glass in bulkheads to seal off the area. However, you will almost certainly need top access which will mean major modifications to the deck and cockpit seats. There should be enough depth to have a drain above the waterline and still have enough vertical clearance for the bigger bottle.

I moved mine into the Port Aft locker and put a 4.5KG bottle in it, I drilled to 32mm holes side by side and fitted S/S vent low down. The gas hose was long enough and drilled a hole into the aft locker.

The boat is in Largs if you want to go and see it berth C60

I have heart somewhere that there are deeper lockers available for a larger (higher bottle). This can be right if the calor gas bottle is about the same diameter as the camping gas bottle.
You are right that the camping gas bottle is extremely expensive. It looks like Volvo.

Do you remember where you heart about it? I have an bottle, same diameter, but much cheaper gas.....

I checked and found on the Dutch BZc forum that several members bought a deeper (American) gas locker via one of the former Dutch Bavaria dealers. It was mentioned that the price (2012) was only Euro 100. In this locker a 5 kg grey/green Euro bottle will fit. There were also members who made a deeper locker with help of a large diameter PVC tube stiffened with extra Alu strips for carrying the extra load and an additional hose connection at the bottom. The slope of this hose should be continuous down to prevent water staying in this hose.
So try via a Bavaria dealer.

can you please help me with a further advice? what is the BZc forum? is there an internet addressee available? Maybe you have a link to the post with the gas locker for 100 Euro? You can also send me the link per PM.

The BZc is the Dutch Bavaria Zeil (sailing) club with almost 1000 members. This club has a very active forum. The members who ordered the deeper locker ordered it from the former Dutch Bavaria dealer. The new dealer is Jansma. The internet address: www.jansmajacht.nl/ They are located in Almere. I don't know if you can get it from them, but give it a try.
