Batteries

Hi.
My original Exide 140ah. domestic batteries show about half charge on the meter. The boats charger is left on. I don't use the batteries a lot. They appear to be the originals for the Bavaria30c. 2006. I know Exide 140 ah are going to be a lot of money. I was wondering if I could get away with 120ah. x2 or even 110x3 (in parallel of course). Would the basic lead acid top up type be better or the sealed type, bearing in mind they will be connected to the boats original charger on shore power daily?
Any ideas and what do you think of the batteries on e bay (new batteries)?

I would not use lead-acid nor buy off Ebay. Varta are a reputable company and their website is informative. Delivery costs are also reasonable.  Look at the 'Promotive Blue' product. I use 2 x 140Ah Heavy Duty (800A) batteries and these have been completely reliable.

Yep, I agree with DawnTreader. I've got 2 x Varta 140aH as well and they seem to do the job.

I did a lot of research on this when it came time to replace the crappy two Banner 135 Ah batteries on our 2009 B31 Cruiser this year, and for what it's worth I concluded lead acid was still them way to go for a number of reasons....

I managed to pack in four 6v (series/parallel) Trojan T125 deep cycle batteries. Total 480 Ah and also installed a Victron battery monitoring system. I'm really happy with the system...it has huge reserve and worked great for a 800 mile circumnavigation of Vancouver Island ths summer.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the Varta option and I like the idea. However, these are sealed batteries and I was wondering if I need to change /alter the original boat charger which is left on continuously - charging rate?
I had previously looked at the Trojan option, however, the batteries seem to be quite tall and I am not sure if they will fit under the bunk where they will be housed. I will need to take some measurements.

You need to check if your charger has settings that need to be altered for different types of battery
