I have a 37 foot cruiser powered by a Volvo D1-30. At average revs, say 2000 what can I expect in fuel consumption. 4 persons on board and fair??.  sea state.

Many thanks Wayne

Our 38 ft 2009 Bavaria with  D1-30 sitting  on 2100 RPM doing 5.4kn uses between 1.6 and 1.8 litres per hour. Consumpton per hour rises to 3 litres per hour sitting on 2400 RPM doing 6.1 kn. All figures for calm seas.

Fuel consumption is a direct function of the amount of power being demanded. At 2000 (which is rather low for cruising - 2200 is better - you are using about 16hp and fuel burn is around 1.7l hour. If you use maximum revs the prop will demand close to the full 29hp, so as suggested fuel consumption will nearly double.

You can check your actual consumption by brimming the tank, running 20 hours or so and brimming again.

I have a B37 with D1-30b and, from logged useage, now use 2 l/hr when planning fuel consumption for longer trips. This is in keeping with the posts above.

I agree with dawntreader above. 2 litres per hour at no more than 2200rpm and leave 1/3 tank for emergencies. Also, a large flat battery bank with a 115amp alternator will increase fuel consumption by 10 to 20%.

My usage figures in my previous post are based on recorded consumption over 5 full seasons in the Med. I record fuel consumption against hours of engine use.
