Motor Boats / 305 Panel not powering up
Last post by Trumpy71 - Yesterday at 11:31
Hi, new member that has run out of ideas. I've just purchased a 37HT here in Perth Australia, i turned both fridges on on Friday when we left the boat and connected shore power  and on Sunday morning the LED on the 305 panel had gone out and the fridges were obviously off. After checking everything for an hour i disconnected the 6 pin connector to the touch pad on the helm and noticed that when i reconnected that all of the LEDs momentarily lit up before going out. After about 6 attempts at doing this the panel came to life so i turned the fridges on again and left them for the night and next morning the same result but this time i cannot get the panels to power up up even though there is power as the LEDs momentarily power up when i remove and reconnect the 6 pin plug at the helm touch pad. I've checked all fuse and everything is ok, not sure whether the canbus resistors can cause this. Im assuming the fridges are 12V only and will not switch over to shore power, at present i have no functions such as lights, water pump, engine hatch and everything that runs off the pads. Any ideas ???

Bavaria Yacht Help! / hatch friction hinge size on b...
Last post by Diverphil1 - April 18 2026, 10:04
hi all, i have a leak coming from the hinge whare it bolts through the Perspex and down to drip on the bunk.
there looks to be 2 sizes of gaskets to fit different sizes of hinge, both similar shapes but slightly differing dimensions, does anyone out there know what size/type the hatch is so i can get the correct gasket for it.
its on a 2006 bav 33 cruiser.
thanks

Bavaria Yacht Help! / Re: Fresh water overheat

as sy posted but add to check exhaust elbow, a pinhole in the raw water to exhaust manifold would let exh pressure into the system. before it gets bad enough for your coolant to escape.

Hi, I've got a schematic which more or less shows the changes I made to the default setup.

Some remarks on your plans.
As said, such a large battery system with relative small chargers (both engine and shore chargers only have a max! of 50A) will take more than 12 hours to recharge your batteries. I'm not sure the standard charger will be able to deliver this.

If you do not want to fix a solar panel, you could invest in a portable solar setup. If you are not able to create a special connection for that, you can look for those portable versions you can directly connect to the 12V accessory outlet. You would be limited to max 150W then, but it could compensate for half or a third of your consumption.

As symphony mentioned, such an amount of energy does not make sense in my opinion. It will take 12h + to run the engine from empty to full. The size of your dc-dc charger seems ok. Your alternator will not deliver 50A at engine idle, but needs approx. 1500 rpm to generate the 50A without overheating. The usual way to design a lifepo system is:
1) Calculate your average daily consumption (sum of runtime of each item in hours x current draw in Amp). Start with your fridges, autopilot, nav instruments, ..). Fitting a battery monitor in advance to know your demands in helpful to avoid costly stranded investments.
2) This demand has to be produced somehow (shorepower, altnator, ...).  Divide the result of (1) by the max current of your charging device, and you roughly know how long you need to run it every day...
3) A sensible battery capacity is 1.5 to 2 times your daily energy needs. If you can't or don't want to produce your electricity daily, increase your battery capacity by the amount needed for each additional day without production.

Maybe one or more of the following issues:
Not enough raw water flow, raw water circuit partially blocked,
impeller ripped,
filter clogged .
Thermostat not working.
Head gasket blown.

Bavaria 30 Volvo  D 1-20. Engine running fine for 2 hours then overheat alarm. Coolant forcing its way out of expansion tank. Clearing very hot. Raw water circuit working normally with water exiting the exhaust and exhaust temperature sensor (i fitted) normal. Any help gratefully received
