Title: Original Anchor that Fit Bow Roller on Bav 36
Post by: Querencia on August 04 2015, 03:53
I realized that the previous owner of our 2004 B36 had changed to an oversized anchor which doesn't fit the bow roller very well, While it is nice to have an oversized anchor ,It will require alot of stainless steel  fabrication  which I don't want to tackle this year,What was the original anchor that came with the B36 [ Was it a 22 pound Delta ? ] and how did it perform in holding, weight, etc

On our Bav 36, 2005 we originally had an anchor, CQR type of 15.8 kg. Have changed to Bruce type of same size for better grib.

Expect the original was a 25lb Plough type like a CQR. Sensible to replace that as they are only good for garden ornaments. A 16kg Delta is a good replacement. It will fit on the bow roller and is a superior performer in most situations. Perhaps not as good as the roll bar type, but good value. Make sure you buy a genuine lewmar one rather than the cheap copies.

My B36 from 2002 has been fitted with a 15kg "Bruce" style anchor from new. It fits perfectly, and has worked very well in the five and a half years that I've owned the boat. I've anchored in places where the bottom has been rocky, rock covered in seaweed, and plain sandy bottom, and have not had any bad experiences so far.
