Title: fridge evaporator icing up
Post by: aquapore on December 16 2015, 09:15
Can anyone shed light:

The original thermostat on by 2003 Bav 41 was wound around the the evaporator. I was told by techs at Weaco that this to prevent icing up of the evaporator and that the thermostat operates around minus 9 degrees or so.

I am replacing my thermostat with an electronic type -  external with digital display ($12 Aus from EBay! including freight from HK).

The question is:

Should the sensor be zip tied to the evaporator and set at minus 9 (or so)
OR
Should it be set at say +4 degrees and mounted outside the evaporator housing.

I have had iproblems of the evaporator coils icing up which does cause needless waste of battery power.

Would appreciate comment and advice.

Regards
