Title: Selden rodkicker gas spring
Post by: Harmony on March 01 2016, 13:24
Has anyone found an alternative replacement for the Selden gas spring in a Type 10 rodkicker?

It's not a desperately needed maintenance job but I enquired anyway yesterday and was quoted £114 + VAT for a new spring!

Seems expensive?

I've found Selden parts to be stupidly expensive in the UK for whatever reason (e.g. the bottom Snapshackle on my Furlex - £62.04 UK, $30 US). They're much more reasonably priced in the US, and many US suppliers will be happy to ship internationally - or better yet, ship to a friend in the US and have them send/bring it to you. May be trickier for large unwieldy bits though.

I believe that this stainless strut is the same size as the Selden part - http://www.sgs-engineering.com/gssv14-300

Worth checking the dimensions.

For A B42 (2000)   Its SGS part number GS14-27-300-360  £50 inc VAT and delivery in UK.   It's actually 22mm shorter than the Seldon original but you can add a threaded sleeve and stud if your that fussy.

I've found Selden to be generally hit or miss with support.

Perhaps there is a more solid manufacturer to use.
