Title: Alternator brand
Post by: suibhne on July 13 2016, 13:28
Does anyone know the brand of the alternator likely to be fitted to an original volvo engine for a Bavaria 36 2002 series?
It would enable me to order spare brushes  which I would carry in case of need.
Also a user manual might be obtained  as an online download
I have looked at my own alternator but there is no sign of identification.
I suppose If I removed the alternator it might show a badge somewhere but  that seems a bit of unnecessary hastle.

My boat is 2004 but assuming you also have a Volvo engine most probably the alternator is a 60 Amp unit made by VALEO.
Don't remember the exact model number but if you google "valeo volvo penta" you will get many results for it and for replacements by other manufacturers.

Thanks Lyra

This gives me a number of suppliers of spares for the alternator.
I was also surprised by the relative cheapness of a new alternator.
Not often I can say that about boating.

I've carried a spare alternator since I bought my boat, and my Balmar unit is not cheap! My spare is the same mounting, but a lower output.
