Title: Diesel additive
Post by: tckearney on July 29 2016, 09:20
Hi All   I have recently been reading about the dreaded Diesel bug.  I have been using the expensive diesel biocide treatment every time I fill up and even over dosing.  Recently a very experienced Engineer who has worked on large diesels all his life, told me that TCP works just as well and causes no damage.  Any Comments.

If you believe him, stop buying biocide.  But I'll keep using Marine 16 and Grotamar alternately, every time I fill up.

The composition [of TCP] is:
phenol   0.175% w/v
halogenated phenols   0.68% w/v
Presumably the rest is water, just what you need in a diesel tsnk.

I much prefer enzyme based treatments rather than raw chemicals. It is surprising what harsh chemicals some bugs can tolerate, but the enzyme treatments are very targeted. I have had good results with Soltron.
