Title: B44 2003 interior wood type?
Post by: Needsailing on October 10 2016, 14:18
I would like to make up some wooden restraints / fiddles the same as the ones in the galley. Does anyone know what the wood is or something that will end up looking similar. Thanks

If it is the classic early 2000s interior the panels are sapelee [mahogany] the trim like fiddles are laminated mahogany . Geoff

There are many different variations of mahogany so you need to look through stock to find a match, although you can use wood dye such as Colron to adjust the colour. A satin finish varnish is good to blend in with the original. I use Ronseal as it is easy to apply and lasts well down below. The section in front of the galley is profiled and it is worth finding somebody who has a spindle moulder to machine a matching profile.

We fitted uprights in a similar hardwood but have strung two lengths of elastic shock-cord end to end and drilled through the two uprights instead of fitting a removaeable bar. or two This allows us to restrain a good collection of books and stuff when sailing while allowing easy access for stowing or removal.

As the wife insisted on a reef being taken as soon as anything ever moved from the starboard shelf the elastic has allowed a few more knots of wind to rise before the command is given!
