Title: OIL PAN GASKET REPLACEMENT BAV 34
Post by: Bobb on April 12 2017, 21:42
Still looking at that 2009 Bav 34 .. might need an oil pan gasket. Anyone done this and do you have to lift the engine to get to it?

Thanks ..

Bob

hi bobb
if you have the twin aft cabin arrengement its quite  a easy job. will have to undo the mounting bolts and jack up engine sligthly
ps. on mine it has the Beta engine. but i think the volvo should be similar

regards

Abby

Hi Abby ..

thanks .. though i have the single cabin set-up. Can you jack up the engine and not disturb the sail drive bellows?

Yes, the saildrive unit stays in place and you uncouple the engine, pull it forward and lift. Probably best done with a crane and the pan can be removed and gasket replaced. Alternatively, build a temporary support on the cabin floor and pull the engine forward and do the work in the cabin. Lots of coverings needed as it might be a bit messy!

Are You sure it is the oil pan gasket ? I thought I had the same problem, but found that it actually was the o-ring at the holder for the oil sticker (oil level measure). After replacement I have no oil under the engine.
