Title: Propane Locker: Bav 34 cruiser 2009
Post by: Bobb on July 03 2017, 18:06
Has anyone bought an aluminum propane tank for their Bav 34? I've tried several and nothing seems to fit, other than the (tiny) 1.5 Gal (6 liter?) that came with the boat. I want to use a larger tank .. 2.5 gal .. but the size is confusing.  Thanks for any help!

Bob

No. The locker is designed to take the Camping Gaz cylinder which is available throughout Europe under that name or many local names. It is a major modification to build a locker that will hold a larger cylinder and still meet the safety requirements, particularly draining overboard.

for anyone checking this out, i did find a steel tank that would just barely fit. Holds 2.5 gallons. Steel, though, so needing periodic replacement. West Marine and on line.

My boat takes two of the same size cylinders Bobb has in the standard locker that came new with the boat in 2014. I bought her new to US spec (which really means AC electrics at 120V/60Hz) in the BVI.  I also had a 2005 Cruiser 42 and a 2010 Cruiser 35 bought new to US spec that had lockers capable of taking this 2.6 US gallon size too. I don't think the lockers were modified from Eu spec it's just that the size bottle at 2.6 US gallons will fit and two will fit if it is a double locker....

For those in Europe don't forget that what we are referring to is 2.6 US gallons (9.8 litres) not Imperial gallons so actually in Imperial gallons the comparison would be 2.16 Imperial gallons in this size bottle.....
