Title: Engine room vents 40 Ocean [split from varnishing thread]

Yngmar, by the side of your companionway are a couple of vents. I have the same boat but no vents [engine room?] Geoff

They're original as far as I can tell, and ventilate the engine room, which doesn't have much other ventilation going on, except perhaps through the bilges. Mine was built in 2000 and launched in 2001 - Bavaria seemed to often do minor changes during a model lifespan (and some custom options, e.g. the removable inner forestay was listed as such in the original order sheet).

How is your engine room supplied with air?

I guess that it goes via the bilges. It has not been a problem as far as I know. Built in 2001. Geoff

FWIW, my 2001 aft-cockpit model of the same boat has engine-room vents by the companionway - just longitudinal as the companionway design is a bit different in AC-model.

My B34 - 2000 build has the same engine vents in companion way but I have seen several other with and without these vents.  Seems as said before, Bavaria varied the spec.  As an aside, my vents were a pain as rain water leaving the hatch scuppers ran over them and despite the louvre, was entrained into the engine compartment.  Had to modify to stop this.
