Title: Anchor wash down pump recommendations ?
Post by: Stuart on September 16 2012, 17:55
Hi All

Our pump died last year and I was wondering if anyone could suggest a good powerful, reliable pump that wont break the bank.

Hi Stuart,

I'm not able to advise on your pump question, but I am interested to learn more about your anchor wash down arrangement. I have been considering adding a system to our Bav 36, but am reluctant to drill another hole through the hull to source water or to run a hose all the way back to the nearest seacock in the head beside the companion way. Where does your system source the water from?

Thanks

John

Hi John

I was able to "T" off the raw water inlet for the toilet just aft of our "V" berth (we have a Bavaria 42) so not a very long run to the pump which sits under our berth.

I know what you mean by not wanting to drill another hole in your boat, I just installed a watermaker over a year ago and drilling that hole for the thruhull  had to be the hardest part of the whole install.  :))

Hi Steve

I routed it into the anchor locker port side, aft (the vertical face of the base for the windlass). I was able to remove the bulkhead panel at the foot of the "V" birth and that made it so much easier.

here is a link to some of the mods we've done showing the "V" birth access.

Are you spraying the water onto the chain as it comes through below the windlass and into the anchor locker to drain out the bottom

Thats what I was thinking, so where does the spray actually come out, did you drill a hole on the bow under the anchor roller

Hi Stevie

Sorry I didn't explain properly, the pump outlet is inside the anchor locker, near the windlass, with a short length of garden hose and a adjustable spray nozzle. This is handy cleaning off the foredeck if any mud/whatever gets on there and reaching over the bow to clean off the chain and anchor when it comes on board
