I am trying to decide how best to run the asymmetric sheets to the main winches. The B34 (2000) has its main winches well aft, adjacent to the wheel. The aft cleats are almost adjacent to the winch also. I was planing to strop a block to the aft cleat and the take the sheet from there to the winch but the block will be so close to the winch that the angle of the sheet to the winch will be quite steeped. Anyone any experience of spinnaker or asymmetric on the B34?
I have mine on a 33 on a very short strop attached to the aft leg of the cleat. Same thing on my earlier 37. You probably need to experiment abit. Can't remember whether there is any clear deck aft of the cleat where you could put U bolts, which is another alternative.
Thanks Synphony, I have considered the cleat but that looks too close to winch. Now considering strop to aft corner eg of the push pit. Looks very strong point. Another alternative would be to strop it to the aft deck eye for the jackstay.
Use the halyard winches for spinnaker/asymmetric!
I think (have not tried) that with sheet lead blocks aft close to push pit the sheet to coach roof line might well foul the cockpit /coach roof bulkhead? Where to you have the lead blocks in that configuration? Now thinking of deck eye bolts close to push pit base. Can easily access under deck via lockers so can put in substantial SS backing plate to spread load.
I have folding padeyes in the location just forward of the cleats and by the pushpit stantions. Works well. As you say you can get under to back these up with plates for strength. The folding padeyes mean no toe stubbing when not in use...
Folding eyes sounds good. Having said that I am planning to put the eyes pretty close to transom where practically no foot will tread.
