I have a Bav 38 2005, I am looking for photos of the installation work for a Eberspacher heater, and any tips you have for the ducting work/ route, location of the heater, main fuel tank or separate tank, heater controls type.
Photos would be good, but it is a Bavaria 38 I am looking for.

Here's a sketch of the duct run on mine, one thing to note is lag the duct as the forward cabin does not get as much heat even with vents closed in both heads, during the winter months we could be doing with a second eberspacher installed. I'm looking at putting in an in-line fan such as shurflo yellow tail ASAP supplies 716750 to boost the heat through, project for next month.

I see your unit is mounted fore and aft in the lazaret , how did you do that in terms of brackets, any chance of a photo!!!
Also did you recycle the cabin air back into the heater. ( not the burner) or does it come from outside.

The air comes form a vent of the aft starboard between the steps see photo, as for a photo of the mounting brackets I'll have to get someone to take as Im offshore for the next 3 weeks. If your buying a new eberspacher I would look at the D5 more heat, I'm going to lag mine this time off.

Hole for the exhaust on the starboard side low down (photo).
As for the lagging the actual proper stuff that eberspacher provide is expensive, Im looking at a type of bubble NASA type rap around.

Thank you for the photo but it does not help, It's the bracket fixing on a Bav 38 I am looking for.
Yours looks like it is in the stab locker, and I am not sure how they have bonded the plate to the hull, if that is what they have done.

The plate was bonded during construction by Bavaria
we fitted a heater to our bav 38 a mikuni , it was fitted in strbd side of transom area , accessed through hatch at end of berth , screwed onto bulkhead seperating from berth , above hatch , although the engineer found that boat had been predrilled with holes for ducting at manufacture , as heating had not been fitted , they had used holes for some wire runs and as we used full size ducting he had to mod some holes as not enough room for wires and ducting . these wires were run when boat manufactured . It wasnt a big job , ducting run is down starboard side on our boat .
intrestingly cockpit vents into transom space allready had internal tubing attached to guide air to area where heater was installed .

Photos with lagging on it. got the lagging from screwfix and worked a treat, with the spare left over iI double wrapped the the ducting from the heater.

3 rolls Thermawrap Loft Insulation 400mm x 5mProduct Code: 76477
1 roll No Nonsense Aluminium Foil Tape 48mm x 50mProduct Code: 35529
I just cut the lagging into easily managed sections, on the long sections cut the insullation length wise ie 1200mm and when I wrapped it round the duct it had an over lap of about 50mm for get the foil tape onto it. On the more awkward sections like heads cut acroos ie 250mm depending on pipe size.

Thanks for the photos just the ticket, makes life easy for me and a good many others, as the project will cost in the order of £900 instead of £2000. You can get a new D4 eberspacher unit and pump for less than £800 by shopping around.

The only problem I have with the system is that the forward cabin doesnt get much heat due to the length of run so im going to put a inline fan into the system before the "Y" branch in the starboard aft cabin to allow more flow. The fan Im looking at is from ASAP supplies a shurflo yellowtail part no 716750

The pipes look good now the wrap is on, has it improved the heat in the fore cabin ??

Not really not enough airflow coming through wouldn't be enough to heat the cabin that's the reason to install an inline fan, I'm just trying to get the flow rates correct so that I don't pull more flow than the heater put out. I'm getting the HVAC tech offshore to work it out (it has advantages out here)
