Title: New Heat Exchanger Internal Surface Protection
Post by: Harry Brown on April 26 2019, 17:42
I just purchased a new heat exchanger (existing one on last legs due to internal corrosion).

I'm looking at some specialist surface protection materials to try and protect it before it's initial use.
I came across this.

http://www.belzona.co.uk/en/products/1000/1341.aspx

It seems perfect but I'm not sure of the heat exchangers max operating temperature. Max for this product is 60c.
Would anyone happen to know what the internal surface temp would be when operating at it's hottest with the sea water flowing through?
A car engine runs at 90c, it must be close to that I suppose? I've never even given a thought at what these run at?

Thanks

Well over 60C. Thermostat opens at around 85.

The corrosion is usually on the saltwater side and can be minimised by periodic cleaning. Freshwater side is protected by the inhibitors in the coolant

So if I say 90C to be safe? What would you say the max would be?
I guess not over 100C?
Anyone got a temp sensor near the heat exchanger?
Thanks

I have a full tin of Volvo primer and a full tin of Volvo green top coat if you are interested.

I binned my Volvo last month and put a Beta in (due to heat exchanger corrosion).

Thank you. I'd be interested in that, what would you like for it? Cheers
