We have a Bavaria 34 2010 and we need to access the holding tank due to a blockage. We have a circular possible hatch in the holding tank with a dysfunctional electrical sensor set in its centre. This is approx 120mm in diameter. Is this an inspection hatch and if so, how can it be opened?
It should unscrew anti-clockwise. You may find it difficult to budge. Some people make a sort of "spanner" to fit in the slots to give more leverage. Grease it with silicone grease before refitting it.
Thank you very very much!! I thought it should open but it was good to know that it would do so😀
Pics of a tool I made up from a hot water tank element removal spanner. The shaped wood pieces are slightly different from yours, I find to get the right leverage the force has to be low down.
The senders only show 3/4 full and are famous for failing. I just installed a strip LED light and a push-button switch wired to the main panel with an in-line fuse. That way i can see the exact level in the tank. Very reassuring!

Hi Bob,
Also the display of our Bav from 2012 is showing 0 or 75%, independent from any filing level.
Please explain more details of your LED installation. I do not want to open this tank which we bought with the boat including content 5 months ago.
Best regards
Frank
I use a torch, no installation no hussle ;D
Only light up the backsiide
Make physically 100% sure its not full before you try to open it!!!
Hello,
in 2018 we had a similar problem. I poured drain cleaner through the inspection opening into the tank. And left it for two days. Then I took a mask and snorkel and dived under the boat. There I used a suck pömpel and could remove the blockage.

Hello,
Big warning with the sensor in the middle of the opening: Do not try to remove it with the opening closed: There is a seal and a plastic screw behind and if the sensor is unscrewed, they fall in the tank! Very difficult to get them back afterwards.
