Title: Real fuel and water 210 lt Bavaria 2008 real tank capacity
Post by: kavok on April 17 2020, 16:37
Someone know the real capacity of 210 lt fuel and water tanks of 2004 2010 J&J  Bavaria sailing
boat?
A friend o mine exactly put 268 lt of fuel in a 210 lt fuel tank on Bavaria 44.  So I think is possible that water tank of 210 lt  could contain a similar litrage.

on our 2006 33c its 150L fuel and 210L water, not sure what they actually hold as not filled them yet, I have heard that the gauges are not very accurate so best to do your own calculations for fuel use. as far as actual amount to get in them a fuel tank can be +/- around 5%, also you would have to add the fuel in the pipe down to the tank from the filler.

The real capacity is embossed on the top of each tank, in the plastic mold. Our 230 litre tanks hold 230 litre each and the 150 litre tank holds 150 litre.

It's much more likely that your friend got cheated at the fuel pump than that his tanks have mysterious multi-dimensional fluid pockets.

He put gas from canister 20 litres each to set Digital Yachts fuel sensor nmea 2000. No mistake.

But what does it say on the tank? The difference is huge and a 270l tank would simply not fit in the same place as a 210l. Can't mess with physics. So if it is the original factory tank it is 210l - every document I have seen says this - and 360l water (suspect that is in 2 tanks).

Hope he did not put "gas" in a diesel tank.

Yes, difficult to believe. But diesel fuel was putted in the standard fuel tank, 210 lt, 5 litres by five litres and the tank was full at 270 lt. (Bav 44) He repeated the operation twice, thinking to a mistake, but the rusult was the same.
Today another friend of mine filled standard water tank, 210 lt, with a counter liter, and it was full at 270 lt. (Bav 40 2008). It is all. I invite you to ceck, if you do not believe!

You still have not answered the question. What is the capacity stamped on the tank? If a tank has the physical dimension of 210l volume it cannot take 270l. Equally a 270l tank cannot fit in the same space as a 210l.

It is strange that nobody else has the same experience with Bavaria tanks. They hold the claimed capacity.

210 lt nominal capacity. You can simply try with an water counter liter, more simple that try with diesel...

If it has 210l stamped on the tank, that is the volume which it will hold. It is a physical impossibility to get 268l into a tank with a volume of 210l. It is not a "nominal" capacity, but an actual capacity determined by its physical dimensions.

What water counter litre are you using to measure it?

Remember that for a completely empty fresh water system you are also filling the calorifier (water heater), so another 20 or 30 litres on top of the tank capacity.

I think if you open cold water until the pump stop to bring water, the water tanks are empty.
At this moment if you do not open hot water, the boiler remain full. Do you agree?

Yes, I agree. In fact I also think once the main tank is empty not much comes out of the boiler either because the pump cant pressurise the system. My comment was really just to check you weren't measuring from a completely empty (eg winterised) system.

With a 210 tank and full boiler, you will certainly get a bit more than 210 into the system before the filler overflows.  The filler pipe itself probably holds a few litres when brimmed, the breather a small amount etc, but I don't think the volume of the plumbing is enough to explain the difference.
