My in mast furlin works fine if used at the mast winch but when using it from the cockpit winches it takes about ten turns on the which to give one turn on the furlin winch. Obviously the loop line is just sliding over the Line Driver half's. I intend to replace the loop feeder line but has anybody had the need to replace the half line feeder discs in the winch itself. They look okay but as I don't know what they look like new I can't tell if they are worn out.
I am prepared to be very wrong here, but shouldnt you apply a little tension to the side of the furling loop not under full tension? This makes sure it leads onto the furling "drum" correctly. I usually furl the main sail easily by hand. I have only used the winch once in an unexpected squall and then i managed to pull the rope out of the guideways and ended up at the mast with a winch handle anyway.
Unlikely they are worn. More likely the line is worn. Selden recommend 10mm double plaited rope. There are instructions on splicing the loop at seldenmast.com/files/1539154449/595-673.pdf You may find it helps if you apply a bit of tension on the lazy side of the loop as you furl as this will hold the line more firmly down in the driver.
Also, make sure that all your turning blocks are free running.
Thanks Symphony thats the answer I was hoping for. Also thanks for the rope details. I have B42, would that be same size rope as yours. Mine is pretty streched so hard to deterime what diameter it stated off as.
Yes, the rope is the same size as the furling mechanism is the same. All the installation and service manuals are on the Selden website. Very easy to access and follow.
I have had the slack line jump out on several occasions.
I spliced a new line onto mine last year and it did slip a bit for the first few weeks. After that it settled down. As Sootydog says though, you need a little bit of tension on the tail to get the discs to bite.

Last year i had to replace my furling line and used 10mm line. Spliced it by following a YouTube and was a first time Go at that.
