Title: Furlex 300s
Post by: buttonfreebie on November 10 2020, 08:50
Does anyone know how to get at the 4 screws B4 on the Furlex lower swivel parts diagram. 3 of the screw have worked out and are now tight against the inside of the tack ring , part B8  I hope I don't have to remove the complete unit

I might be wrong, having done this only once a few years ago, but I think you can slide the B1 collar upwards onto the foil after removing 2x B2 screws. That should get you access to the B4 undernearth.

Yes B1 can slide up revealing only the top 1/8 th part of screws B4 . The rest of the screw is hidden behind the tack ring B8 and that is the problem how to get access !

I see. Never had cause to take it apart that far, but in the exploded drawing it looks like the tack ring must come off downwards, and the only part preventing it from doing that is B13, which is encouragingly labeled as "Clip ring". So I'd have a good look at that - it's probably some sort of circlip or similar. Be prepared for the loose bearing balls from both upper and lower races to drop out, so best tape a plastic bag in place to catch them.

Ah, a quick search hints that the retaining ring is a Spirolox type. Removal and installation videos here: https://new.engineering.com/story/what-you-need-to-know-about-spiral-retaining-rings

Good luck and don't drop the balls!  ;D
