Title: Coolant temp display instalation
Post by: elias on March 07 2021, 10:39
Hi,
I am thinking of installing a temp instrument at the cockpit. I don't think I see already a plug installed on my d2 55 . I attach a foto . Does anybody has done it before ? I ll have to buy a temp instrument like VDO and a gauge right ?

The 'sender' will be likely up near the thermostat housing....If it has only one contact, you'll need to replace it with one with two contacts. One will be like the old one and trip 'on' if the engine overheats to light the warning light and set off the alarm. The extra contact on the new sender will connect to your new gauge....You may find the wiring harness already has a cable for a retro-fitted gauge, check the wiring diagram, ours did so installation was simple.
I did this a couple of years ago and it gives great peace of mind.

I came at this from a different direction, years ago I fitted a water flow activated buzzer in the raw water line after the pump. It will sound on start till water flows, or during running if raw water flow is interupted[blocked filter, impellor fail etc] The only time it has gone off for real was when I failed to open the sea cock OOPS. Simple mechanical flow switch has stood the test of time ,plus I dont have to check a gauge. Geoff

if just done this job last year.... unfortunately at a D1 30.

Was quit simple. I have bought new 'sender' with two contacts, one for the buzzer the other one for temperature. Then bought an display, classic round, similar to my gasoline display.

the one above says there is a cable still available, i did not find it but was a simple job 1 cable from the engine to the cockpit.

sorry for my pure english....

p.s. you need to buy a adaptation from the sender to the engine. would like to give you the seller but my boat is far away and the papers all there

Hi , i don't know if my engine is EVC , how can I tell? Do you think that the 2 pin connector on the right in the photo goes to the engine panel and can be plugged on a thermometer ?

Hi

Engine. Year of manufacture.. ?

I guess first EVC models were build 2006 or something like that.
There in main panel should be on that case letters EVC..
