Title: Single handed rudder extractor
Post by: elias on March 19 2021, 20:56
I ve just used this setup for taking out and back in my rudder alone .
The system consists us in photo and cost around 15€ . A M10 , 1m long thread bar (normal steel), some nuts and a pad eye, a frame and some dyneema rope . I can lower and raise the rudder for greasing the bearings alone !

Nice, although you must've gotten tired of spinning that nut! :D

Careful where you grease, especially if you have the roller bearings. Jefa has detailed maintenance instructions and a video: https://www.jefa.com/maintenance/maintenance.htm

Is about a 10' try to take it to the ground ... I just lower it so the upper bearing is free so I can grease it - yes I installed both bearings from Jeffa and they were clear not to use grease inside . Then I move from below the rudder so the lower bearing rolls a little and I apply grease with my finger and a milkshake straw , just to keep it moving a little .
It was tougher without the extractor to put it again even with 3 friends helping, with this nut and bolt it comes slowly but steady up while is controllable routed .
