Title: Fuel gauge
Post by: MagicalArmchair on March 22 2021, 14:04
My fuel gauge is rusted to hell, so I want to replace it. Is the sender a float arm type on the J&J boats of my age do we know?

The sender on our 2001 40 Ocean is the VDO float arm type, very reliable: https://www.svb24.com/en/vdo-gauge-sensor-for-fuel-tank.html

The gauge is not VDO, but Turotest. The special feature is that the scale isn't linear. This is to better match the wedge shaped tank, so the gauge reflects that there is more fuel in the top than in the bottom of the tank. So half full (2/4) is much more than half the gauge. There's a German supplier here (beware, the same instrument is also available with linear gauge, easy to order wrong): https://klabauter-shop.de/en/3079/philippi-turotest-fuel-gauge-water.html

I have a spare one if you want it.  I replaced my guage and sender because the sender was shot.

Only trouble is that it's on the boat, which is in Brittany.

If you're happy to hang on until I can go and get it in the summer, you're welcome to it.
