Title: Simpson Lawrence Horizon 600 Remote
Post by: DaveA on April 19 2021, 11:00
We have an original SL Horizon 600 installed on our 1999 Bavaria 34. This weekend I noticed that the removable remote only has 2 pins - I'm pretty sure last time I used it there were 3...
Long story short is that I couldn't get the windlass working at all. I understand that the Horizon 600 is totally obsolete now, but I was wondering if any remote would work or if I have to track down an original part?
Anyone had a similar experience?
Cheers
Dave

We have a SL 1000 Vertical and I believe the Quick Italy remote control is the same as yours. In any case, the connector also has three pins.
Last year in June I stepped on it and suddenly it only had two pins. Fortunately we have a second remote control, so the problem wasn't critical. Since then, I've asked in many stores for a replacement plug. The answer was always, there is no more, everything has to be done again.
But that's not true. Coincidentally, the lady from the chandlery in Lefkas Marina had such a plug freshly ordered on the counter last Monday, which I immediately bought for € 10. Soldering is a bit fiddly, so I let a professional do it.
In short: the plug is still available.

There's plenty of three pin deck sockets and plugs out there. Simply rewire the handset and the socket with a new plug and socket set.
Alternatively fit a radio remote control like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-12V-Wireless-Winch-Remote-Control-Kit-Handset-Switch-For-Car-Truck-ATV-SUV-/402621194909?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286. Simple to fit and cheap as chips.

Dave A. We did a video on fitting a remote. We never use the 3 pin wander lead now.

Hope this helps. Ant.
