Title: Fresh water tank
Post by: Michtsui on May 01 2021, 10:47
Just bought a second hand Bavaria 42 built in 2005 - quite good.
But the water tanks (both) have never been cleaned and washed before (for 17 years). When I tried to open the plastic lid it is so tight and hardly be opened. Any tips?

The inspection cover is often very difficult to unscrew.  Some people make up a "spanner" with two pegs which fit in to the slots.  I've had success with a large pair of water pump pliers.  When you get it off, grease the O-ring with silicone grease before re-fitting the cover.

I cleaned mine with vinegar.

I poured 6L of the cheapest vinegar, fill with few liters of water, left it for a while and then drained it through taps.

After that I rinsed with water, several times with a smaller amount.

Vinegar is good because dissolves limescale well, it cannot corrode metals (like all other organic acids), it is not poisonus and it is cheap. But next time I will use citric acid, the same positive qualities but does not smell like vinegar.

I will additionally do disinfection with Izosan G.
