Hi,
I'm on holiday trip.
The lower ONE PART main-stay (port side) is merely broken in the upper terminal below the 1st spreader - above the 1st spreader there are 2 stay's.
So if the ONE PART piece breaks fully the upper part of the mast will come down.
The rigger (Selden-Specialist) seems to be asked too much to find a quick fix of that.
Any experiences with this sort of problems or solutions would be appreciated.
Kind regards,
Ric
When was the standing rigging last replaced? If it has never been replaced (new from 2001?) the standing rig is over 20 years old! it is recommended to replace the standing rigging at 10 years old! I would be going with replacing the standing rigging!
Stabilize mast with a halyard to midships cleat. Don't sail. Replace broken shroud with new one. Inspect rest of rig for damage, where there is one, there is often more.
If standing rigging is ancient and you find other signs of failure, replace the lot. This is a 1-day job for a good rigger, perhaps with an inspection first so they can order all the right parts.
A new mast is about £35,000. How lucky are you feeling?
