Title: Bilge Liner Cracks
Post by: Sunharvester on September 02 2022, 21:24
2016 Vision

Where do I even start with something like this?

No groundings. Hardly used boat this season except for local day sails. This is all just aft of the aft keel bolt.

Could this have been caused by residual bilge water freezing over the winter?  Allthough I'm pretty sure it wasnt there this spring.

How could this happen other than a keel strike?

Boat was on hard last winter

Looks to me like either a grounding or it's been dropped onto its keel.  Behind the aft keel bolt is usually caused by hitting something at 5kts +

Where you there when the yard lifted/launched/moved it? Looks quite severe, not just some cosmetic crack. Definitely looks like impact to me. So if you didn't hit anything, the other likely explanation is the yard dropped it on the keel and "forgot" to tell you.

......Bill.

It doesn't help you anymore.
I payed a professional to check the used boat we finally bought. Return of this invest within several hours and beyond.
My recommendation if you are willing to pay tens of thousand USD, EUR or whatever: Pay additionally about 2.5% for an real expert.

I'm really curious to learn what the boatyard has to say about this. Looks pretty severe to me :-(

I agree, it does look very much like damage caused by a violent upward force...The Boatyard has a few difficult questions to answer.......Bill.
