I'm trying to find out what's wrong with my SBC 501 charger. It's suddenly showing an "E1", which means shortcut.
What can I check and what replacement charger would you recommend? I have one lead battery and two LiFePo4.
I'm also trying to understand the wiring. From the charger the cables go into a thick black bundle and then make their way towards the control panel. But how and where are they returning to the battery? I cannot see any charging cables attached to the battery directly.
When my original-fit Quick charger failed, I replaced it with a Victron Blue Smart IP22 charger. Very happy with it.
First, switch off all consumers in the boat to check whether the charger is overloaded (the display can also mean overload). Then disconnect all outgoing plus 12V cables. If the error disappears, the problem is outside the charger. Reconnect the connected devices one by one. If the error occurs again, look for the error in the circuit you just connected.
I disconnected everything and I mean really everything and still immediately after switching on the charger. The error is reto.
The capacitors inside the charger don't look good to me anymore. I'll pick up this suggestion and replace it with a Victron.
Something I forgot to ask: there is what looks like a serial nine pin connector on the charger and the wires can be traced towards the Bavaria panel. But I am unable to figure out where exactly it ends. Does anybody know what this connector is for?
