Title: lip seal rudder shaft
Post by: blue-max on July 14 2024, 21:04
If anyone has replaced their rudder shaft lip seal  with a split seal - to save dropping the rudder. Please give me details of make and supplier. Mine would be 65mm inner 120 mm outer.

Why not just go with the Jefa gaiter you can wrap around and glue together without dropping the rudder?

have you used this. It looks a bit primitive.  A split seal also avoids dropping the rudder

Yes. It was standard fit on my 2015 Bav33.

I googled for split seals and could not see anything that was remotely suitable for what you seem to want to do. What is wrong with your current seal? Not something that really gives problems normally.

It may be that the seal  was changed by the previous owner - it looked  ok in 2010 but it appears to  be made from steel  and it has corroded. A company in the US makes a marine split seal  but  they have not replied to  me (Mecoseal.com) problem adding files . will try later

Yes, it perhaps looks a bit primitive, but it works, and I don't think you have to drop the rudder to fit it.  My 2014 Cruiser 37 has the Jefa gaiter and it works well.
