Hi, I am looking for spares for a type 20 rod kicker, gas strut and end plug. Allspars have them but was wondering if anyone has found a replacement gas strut at a cheaper price. £420 seems a lot for the kit.
I recently bought a replacement Gas Strut from SGS. About £50 delivered.
I couldn't find the strut I wanted on their web site so phoned and a very knowledgeable chap found it.
You need the ref number of the old strut.
Hi, what type of rod kicker is yours, I think mine is a 20 looking at the size of the unit but there are no id marks on it and the gas strut is to corroded to see any numbers on it.
Mine is a 30- the boom is heavy.
I you look for earlier threads you'll find someone had given the strut ref for a 20. Or try on YBW.
Thanks for your help.
Our Rodkicker 30 gas spring was corroded and failing but still readable, it was 1200 N (120kgF).
Was just under £60 from SGS Engineering shipped to Italy in the good old pre-Brexit days. Model number GS14-27-250-300.
SGS is definitely the best place to go. They had the exact one I needed for my Selden 30. I had a choice of 1200 nm or 2500 nm. 1200 does the job just fine. The other one would have been way too much.

Not in my experience. When I ordered from them they sent a broken strut, which they blamed me for degassing it. They charged for inspection and "repair" of the faulty strut that was returned to me still broken. Things went downhill from there, their customer service was appalling.
Instead I ordered from Metrol who proved to be far more helpful.
I went through this as well on our 35 here in the US. I ordered the gas strut through McMaster Carr inexpensively. I assume they'd ship to the UK. And acquired the end cap via the Seldon distributor that is located on the East Coast of the US. Not directly, but rather through Fisheries Supply here in Seattle. That may not be as helpful to you. But once having the parts it was reasonably easy.
