The onwer's manual for the MS25* series of Sail Drives says to have a base layer and then a Volvo anti-fouling layer of paint on the sail drive. However, the sail drive is JUST aluminum, like the prop. Propspeed is great for props, so I used it to cover the sail drive. Worked great for about a year. Now, it is all flaked off :-(.
What do you use on for anti-fouling on your sail drive in the U.S.?
Thanks,
Matthew
The Volvo sail drive and propeller both originally have a thick epoxy coating on them. Our prop still had some of it left on, in patches.
If it's bare aluminium, you need to use an etch primer first. I used this one and can recommend it: https://www.militaryvehiclepaint.co.uk/product_details.php?product_id=61711
Just ask for aluminium etch primer.
We used Marlin Paints Velox Plus as antifouling on top of that. But nothing lasts forever on a propeller.
