Title: Backstay on a 33c
Post by: Diverphil1 on May 31 2026, 12:47
I want to move the liferaft from the pushpit and put it on the coach roof as its a lot of weight hanging on the brackets. But the backstay has been threaded through the liferaft frame.probably when rigging was off last year.can I safely remove the backstay wire ( loosen off completely) so that I can unthread the end that goes through the liferaft frame to get it off. Also to replace the tension line and blocks at the same time.

Yes without any problems. I always need to do it for craning of the boat

Do you use any lines to the back instead , like top lift or halyard or does it just not need it.

The shrouds and spreaders are backward thus the mast will stay up. I am not using anything additional to support.
