Title: Shore power plug
Post by: Sweet As on January 04 2014, 22:33
I am having trouble at times easily removing the three pin shore power plug from the transom of our 2004 Bav36. The problem is high friction between the pins and the plug. Does anyone have a really effective trick for helping this plug to slip off without so much force that one fears pulling the plug apart? Cleaning the pins with emery paper from time to time helps a little.

Assuming this is a standard 16A blue plug...

You do know about the release catch?
Any friction is probably the plastic, this is probably the only electrical connection on my boat where I still use WD-40.

Thanks Nigel,

Yes it is the blue plug and I am aware of the lock/release mechanism. I will try lubricating the plastic casing. I had just assumed that the issue would be the melt to metal contact.

I had the same problem. I found a light smear of Vaseline on the pins did the trick. (No doubt someone will be along to give lots of reasons why you shouldn't do that, but it worked for me.)
