Title: Which Calorifier for 2000 B34
Post by: Ricd on May 19 2014, 09:15
Hi

Just notices a tiny leak from calorifier on my B34 (2000 build).  Believe its original calorifier but has no manufacturer plate.  I also think it is a 15L one.
Anybody know either who the original manufacturer was or can suggest a good replacement?

Cheers
Richard

On my last Bavaria (30 - 2005) I refitted a new one:  Isotemp 15L Slim

Was the only one that I was 100% sure would fit underneath the bunk.

The Isotemp 15 l slim is a very good replacement. In a Norwegian test it is one of the best. Further it comes with a mixing valve downstream the Calorifier. It mixes the hot water with cold such that the outlet temperature is only f.e. 50 degr. It safes hot water and safes also the plastic hose downstream the calorifier. These hoses very often fale because these are suitable for water above 60 degr. C.
The Original Calorifier is maybe a QL, which is a Volvo product. These are 22 L.
I had never lack of hot water with my Isotemp 15 L

Whichever one you choose make sure you can easily source a new heater element for it should you need one in the future  ;)

Been looking at Surcal and Quick.  I think the Quick is the same as QL as Volvo would not be making calorifiers.  I must say I am warming towards the Surcal....its 100% copper and much cheaper than the others, particularly the Isotherm which seems overly pricey. Anybody any experience of it?
Interesting you think original is 20L...will check space below berth and see what is the largest one I can accommodate.

Hi,
The QL is not the same as the Quick Nautic.
The QL is the same as the Mobitherm. The Surcal I don't know. What I know is that the Isotemp is best from the test and also my experience is good. The Original QL 20L lasted only 5 years. After that the SS tank was fully corroded although it is 316 SS. For the test see attachment.
