Title: Do you put Grease on the new teflon Bavaria Rudder Bearing?
Post by: Leslieb1973 on June 12 2014, 22:07
Dear all

I am new here. Just purchased a 2004 bavaria 38.  the previous owner told me that the rudder bearing needs replacing.  the new one purchased is a bit different with rollers.  I would like to know if i need to grease the rollers before re inserting the rudder.
Your help is appreciated.

thanks
leslie

This only an opinion Leslie, but I am pretty sure that Teflon is self lubricating, and that to add a lubricant would be to run the risk of any solvents within it attacking the Teflon, and causing more damage than would otherwise occur. So I'd say don't lubricate.

As above, only an opinion, but I would expect a new bearing to be supplied lubricated by the manufacturer if it required lubricating.

WD40 make a Teflon spray grease ( grey can with yellow writing)  which I sprayed which i used during the repair I done on mine in February and all is still as free as a bird.
