Bavaria Yacht Help! / Windless installation
Last post by Fairweather sailor - January 09 2026, 22:24
Hoping to fit a windless in our Bavaria 30 in the coming weeks. The yacht didn't come with a windless. We have to build our own shelf in the anchor locker.
Ideally, we'd like to wire into the electrical panel, to the designated "windless switch" .
Has anyone done such a project, interested in any advice on the wiring.
Thank you.

Any ideas on Hempels "Silic One" antifoul for a circumnavigation?
https://www.hempel.com/all-products/hempels-silic-one-77450-77450

They say it lasts for 2 years and can be easily "refreshed" with an activator coat.

PS - the general plan for the trip is a ratio of 1:3 of sea to land time, ie. the boat will spend a considerable amount of time sitting still in water (port/anchor), at least per plan.

Modifications & Equipment / Re: outboard crane at stern

I would consider making it (having it made) out of 40mm tube to get a cleaner look and feel. To make it out of 25 mm tube will be way too flimsy in any direction to lift your outboard.. (especially if you like 80 cm outreach)

Will need a diagonal support in the bend, else it is probably too springy.

Modifications & Equipment / outboard crane at stern

missed a chance to  buy  someone's cast  off which was perhaps no  bad thing as getting it to  the boat would have been difficult, but been having thoughts about the design for some time. What I would like to  do  is to  use standard stainless tube fittings and make it  out of 25mm  pipe for the vertical and horizonal and bracing pieces. I wonder if 25mm tube would be strong enough ; wall thickness could be 2mm and perhaps lined with 22mm tube to  avoid bending. Outboard not that heavy 3.5 hp but the crane arm needs to  be about 80 cm. Any thoughts?

I a thinking - if I cant patch  the fitting again I could just re route  sea water cooling pipe straight to  the engine strainer and leave the gearbox without water cooling. I wonder how effective it is when its working properly

From your last post I noticed you are not in a convenient place to have them re-made by an engineering company.. usually they would reuse the flanges and renew the piping. If the leak is in a straight piece, you might consider a DIY soldering solution, by cutting the bad piece out and use sleeves and replacement material to solder a new piece in, in situ or properly marked making sure the flanges line up again. "Only" things to source would be pipe material, sleeves and hard soldering..
