Bavaria Yacht Help! / Advice needed on rusty fuel pu...
Last post by SteveB62 - March 26 2026, 01:36
Hello fellow Bavarians I need your advice/thoughts. I have a 2014 Bavaria 37 Cruiser which is experiencing some rust on the fuel pump bolts and I also have a "green" coloured seawater intake valve (see attached pictures). There have been some oxidisation issues on the starboard and stern engine mounts and the fuel pump itself which I cleaned up using a Dremel.
I recently had the boat out of the water and installed a new hull anode and sail drive anode, noting that the old anode was not worn at all. Perhaps the sail drive anode was not doing anything?
I am also concerned about the amount of rust on the rear (stern) of the sail drive, what are your thoughts on this? (see pictures) Should I just clean it up with the Dremel and monitor the situation?

Do you remember bolt size (length)? My boat is far away, and I have to fly with all spare parts to replace saildrive seal. So better to purchase right bolts now

35mm shaft length I think.

Agreed.  I have a Rocna 15 on a Bav30 and its overkill.  Also check what will fit in the anchor locker with the lid fully closed - handy for picking up a buoy with the anchor stowed away.  Rocna15 almost but not quite fits the locker, but I'm sure a 10 would.

Happy Sailor, That is a good idea regarding the use of a template. I will do that when next on board. Thanks for the suggestion.

Symphony 2, I had wondered about the correct weight for our boat size, subject to physical limitations. I will study the Lewmar sizing chart as you suggest. Many thanks.

I think you will find that a 10kg is more than adequate. The original was 25lb CQR type. Suspect that a 16kg Delta will be too big physically. If you look at Lewmar sizing chart you will find your boat is right in the middle of the 10kg recommended range.lewmar.com/delta-galvanised-anchor

I would template your current CQR anchor stank/ shaft with carton and look for a delta anchor with equal weight and matching shape. In that way the least modification you will need to do and nothing to disturbing as a non fitting anchor...
You may have an issue with the different angle the flukes of the anchor are in, comparing CQR and Delta.. Delta angle is bigger than CQR.. in the end, prof of the pudding is fitting it with the possibility to return the anchor..

On our 2004 B32 we have the original CQR type anchor which has seen better days.

Having read numerous reviews we have decided that a Lewmar Delta (16kg) would be suitable.
Does anyone know if this will fit on the existing bow roller and does the anchor locker lid need any modification?
Thanks

I had exactly the same problem on my B40 2001. But in my case water was entering via bow stations (as shown on picture) and then traveling via this laminated wooden strip along the boat. I just sealed stations with butyl and problem gone.

You might consider putting a pigment in the epoxy and using peel ply to get a fair surface. If you do want to paint leave the epoxy to fully cure then fill if necessary, prime and paint.
