Help with gas fitting

In photo you can see my new gas pipe has been made with too long brass tube.

There is not enough headroom therefore in the gas locker for the curve of the rubber tube that end.

The nipple is a tight fit but does come off fairly easily. So can I just cut the pipe

back and refit the nipple after sanding the pipe to get it to go where I want.
