Hoping to fit a windless in our Bavaria 30 in the coming weeks. The yacht didn't come with a windless. We have to build our own shelf in the anchor locker.
Ideally, we'd like to wire into the electrical panel, to the designated "windless switch" .
Has anyone done such a project, interested in any advice on the wiring.
Thank you.

Depends on the type of windlass you're planning to install. Some types have their solenoid built in, and you only need to wire the supply voltage. You need beefy, expensive cables to supply the windlass, and if you use the dedicated windlass switch, you need a cable more (3 instead of 2). You will find the neccessary cable sizes in the installation manual of your windlass. In my opinion the far more complex task is to find the right windlass, and to estimate the right space for the chain, the position of the windlass on the shelf and to make sure, that the chain can drop freely into the locker and don't pile up to much. When installing the shelf make shure you cover the whole! surface of the wooden board with GRP to prevent rot (don't ask me why i know this)

I would recommend to search the internet for similar boats on sale. If they have a windlass fitted, there will be pictures of it. Also to get inspired by similar installations, type of windlass fitted and how it was done
