I need to reattach my Plastic Transom Bumper Moulding, so plan to buy some spring clamps to hold it while bonding.
Does anyone know the width of the Bumper Moulding? - see sketch.

Have you tried to re-attach without the bonding material? When mine came adrift it needed a wooded mallet to re-seat it - that was without the adhesive. If yours is that loose it may suggest you will have difficulty maintaining its grip even with new adhesive.

Yes I've banged it back on with a mallet, which is ok as long as the boat is reasonably upright, but as soon as we heel over at speed it came off. I've bonded it before but with Sikaflex 291. I'll try 292 this time but want to clamp it while bonding to get good surface camtact.
The boat is in Greece otherwise I'd measure it myself, but if anyone in UK could do that I'd appreciate it.

When my one came off in warmer waters I fixed it with this: http://www.bond-it.co.uk/product/pu18/ and it hasn't moved since. Only used one tube and still have some left over  :D . I regularly sail in warm water and it is still solid.

Thanks but I'd appreciate an answer to my original question.

I'm off to the boat today or tomorrow, John. I'll measure and let you know asap unless someone beats me to it.

Hi John

Just got back - the width at the widest part (nearest the GRP) is 50mm and that reduces to 45mm at the outer edge. This is on a B34/2001 but I expect they are all about the same although Salty or Symphony may correct me on that. Hope it helps...

Hi John and Mark,

My measurements today on a B36/2002 tie in pretty much with Mark's, maximum thicknesses, and varied from 46 to 53mm depending on where it was measured, and I checked in several places between one gunwhale and the other. I guess this is may be down to slight variations in the lay up of the flanges joined together under the rubber or perhaps in the amount of adhesive originally used. A friend has a 37(2001), and he had to have his resecured, but had it done for him and does not remember what adhesive was used.

Thanks Mark & Salty.
i can buy suitable spring clamps from our local market @ £1.50 for 2, which is great. I''ve decided on 3M 5200 for the adhesive as it seems to be the strongest on the market. Hopefully if I prep everything properly it will be a permenant solution.
