Steering Maintenance

Hi all. I am new member with 2003 38. An area of maintenance I have blissfully ignored is that of the steering in general and rudder bearings in particular. I have read the threads here about bearing seizure and replacement and, happily, do not currently seem to have a problem. My question therefore is what should I be doing to maintain the steering and bearings to avoid problems arising? With thanks in anticipation.
